- Knowledge: I basically wrote the bible of social media marketing. The New Community Rules was published by O’Reilly in July 2009. This book has been considered the authoritative book on social media. (More reviews and interviews can be seen at the official book page.)
- Reputation: I have been invited to speak at industry conferences and blogger delegations around the world (see notable achievements on my About page). I ran the Community Support department at Technorati Top 10
blogmedia publication Mashable.com, and trained five people for the role (remotely, I might add). I have judged many contests related to search and social media marketing. I also moderated at two major niche social news hubs, Sphinn.com and Tipd.com, and was an editor at Kirtsy.com before all these sites died. When working at Mashable for six years, I was responsible for bringing in millions of dollars of annual revenue. - Focus: My focus on real time email cannot be surpassed. That’s why I own RealTimeEmail.com, because, you know, I thought about the domain name in real time.
- Tech Savvy: I majored in computer science at Columbia University. Realizing I wasn’t so keen on sitting and coding all day, I took two side jobs at college working at both Columbia and Barnard College, maintaining college network infrastructure for both students in their dormitories and administration in their offices. After leaving college, I worked at two more firms, managing enterprise servers and web servers with hundreds of domain names. I build my own computers. I have a Linux machine in my basement. I break things just to fix them again, because I want to stay current so that customers get the best experience ever.
